Walk Of Life, Day 6, September 2020 Thoughts From The Book of Proverbs
But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. Proverbs 6:32
The nation Israel is personified as a woman in the word of God. The Lord’s anguish regarding her disloyalty is profoundly elaborated all through the prophetic books. Jeremiah 5:1,2 says “Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and Take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man one who does justice and seeks truth; that I may pardon her.”
Jeremiah 23:10 says ” For the land is full of adulterers; because of the curse the land mourns, and the pastures of the wilderness are dried up”
There is not a greater sin than adultery which displeases the Lord. Our Lord hates it to the core. By committing adultery we defile our own body. We are called to present our bodies holy and acceptable as we read in Romans 12:1
Though after being clearly warned throughout the Bible and still if a man commits adultery with a woman he certainly lacks understanding and he destroys his own soul.
Just because the word stresses on the masculine gender it doesn’t mean that a woman can escape. The wieightage of sin on both the genders is very much equal. The intense of this sin in today’s scenario is very much vast as a man is in no need of going physically but there are many virtual ways. Jesus says even if a man thinks of a woman he has committed adultery.
The word ‘Adultery’ mentioned in the Bible has both literal meaning and spiritual meaning.
The nation Israel is condemned by God with adultery when they forget The God of Abraham, Issaac and Jacob and go behind other gods.
Let us examine ourselves both in the literal context and in the spiritual context.
Is there anything that comes between us and God. Might be our friends, mobile phone, food, sleep, work, desire for worldly things and so on?
Our Lord whom we serve is a zealous father and He will not give His glory for anything else.
Our body is the temple of the living God and let us plead with our Lord to give us the wisdom to preserve it holy and spotless.
It is indeed easy to write and to preach? But is it easy to practice. We have to live with eyes, ears and all our senses opened. And they are called as senses. They will obviously react to what it sees, hears, smells, feels and thinks. As a child of God, His word should dominate our senses. For His word is quick and powerful, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of thoughts and the intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
That is the only way to live pure in this wicked world. That is the only recipe for living with understanding and to preserve our soul.
How can a young man cleanse his way, by taking heed According to His word” – Psalm 119:9. Let us all be very cautious and alert to safeguard our soul from this dreadful sin.
